Delhi Shivers as Winter Intensifies: Minimum Temperature Drops to 4.9 Degrees

As winter tightens its grip, Delhi experienced its coldest day of the season, with the minimum temperature plummeting below five degrees on Friday morning. The chilling weather brought a frosty start to the day, marking a significant drop in temperature. The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) monitoring station at New Delhi-Safdarjung reported a minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius, making it a bone-chilling day for residents of the national capital.

Delhi Chills Below Shimla:

The onset of winter has brought colder temperatures to Delhi than to the renowned cold destination of Shimla. The minimum temperature in Delhi dipping below five degrees makes it the coldest day so far this winter season. The contrast between the capital city and Shimla emphasizes the intensity of the cold wave gripping northern India.

Hisar Emerges as Coldest in the Plains:

Hisar in Haryana claimed the title of the coldest place in the plains of India, recording a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius. This reinforces the widespread impact of the winter chill, affecting various regions across the northern plains.

Fog Disrupts Normal Life:

The dropping temperatures were accompanied by dense fog in several parts of north and northeast India on Friday morning. This fog disrupted visibility and caused inconvenience to daily life. The India Meteorological Department reported very dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura experienced shallow to moderate fog.

Adapting to Winter Challenges:

As winter settles in, residents of Delhi and surrounding areas need to adapt to the challenges posed by the dropping temperatures and foggy conditions. Taking precautions such as dressing warmly, using appropriate lighting during foggy conditions, and maintaining safe driving practices become crucial to navigating through the winter season.

With Delhi experiencing its coldest day of the season and dense fog disrupting normal life in various parts of northern and northeastern India, it’s evident that winter has firmly established its presence. As the temperatures continue to drop, staying vigilant and adopting winter-ready practices become essential for the well-being of residents in affected regions.
